DGW – Know About IT!

26 Sep

I first got to meet Darius when he and 11 of his friends were collecting change in jars from local Athens businesses to raise money to make a documentary about their trip across the US to see MTV to get his wheelchair pimped.  They wanted to raise awareness about Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) and raise money to do research to find a cure.  At that time, dropping in my $2 in change, I had no idea how inspirational his story would be.  I got to see the process of the making of the movie and I got to see it finally premier through working at UGA’s Institute on Human Development & Disability, a non-profit that gave support and sponsorship to the documentary.  I am forever grateful for getting to have that experience and getting to see Darius’ story and what is has inspired in people and organizations across the nation.  They are having an exciting weekend and you can be a part of it!

The big day is this Sunday, September 27, and we hope you’ll party with us…wherever you are. “Big D” and some of the crew will be celebrating in New York City (one of his favorite places on the planet), and he’ll be in the media spotlight big time…

Darius gets two early birthday presents on Saturday morning, when he will make an appearance on: The CBS Early Show(Check your local listings). That will be followed by an encore appearance on CNN Newsroom (with Fredericka Whitfield) atNoon (EST). In this follow-up piece, MTV’s Vice President of Public Affairs, Jason Rzepka, will discuss why MTV decided to broadcast the film.

All of this leads up to the biggest celebration of all on Sunday: the world television premiere of Darius Goes West on MTV!

Yep, the very network that so many DGW supporters have viewed as “villanous” has stepped up to the plate in a huge way. They will host the world television premiere of Darius Goes West on both MTV2 and mtvU on D’s birthday. Here are broadcast details…

* MTV2: Sunday, September 27 at noon (EST)

* mtvU: Sunday, September 27 at 6:00 PM (EST)

Darius and a few DGW crew members will be in the Big Apple for his 20th, but if you live in or around his hometown of Athens, GA, we hope you’ll head to Harry’s Pig Shop (Homewood Hills Shopping Center) at noon to watch the world television premiere of Darius Goes West on the big screen. Several DGW crew members will be there, and Goslabi green banana pudding will be on the menu!

Welcome Baby Foard!

Each inmost piece in me is thine
Mary Herbert, Countess of Pembroke

Each inmost piece in me is thine:
While yet I in my mother dwelt
All that me clad
From thee I had.
Thou in my frame hast strangely dealt:
Needs in my praise thy works must shine
So inly them my thoughts have felt.

Thou, how my back was beam-wise laid,
And raftering of my ribs, dost know:
Know’st every point
Of bone and joint,
How to this whole these parts did grow,
In brave embroid’ry fair arrayed,
Though wrought in shop both dark and low.

Nay fashionless, ere form I took,
Thy all and more beholding eye
My shapeless shape
Could not escape:
All these time framed successively
Ere one had being, in the book
Of thy foresight enrolled did lie.

My God, how I these studies prize,
That do thy hidden workings show!
Whose sum is such,
No sum so much:
Nay summ’d as sand they sumless grow.
I lie to sleep, from sleep I rise,
Yet still in thought with thee I go.

I read this from a friend that posted it a couple weeks ago and thought it very appropriate as Baby Foard has joined us in the world.  Congrats to the Hunts, now a precious family of four!  Can not wait to live life with you in Prague.

O that I were…

1 Sep

o that I were a tree

reaching and growing nearer to the sky

o that I were a leaf

soaking in all of the light

o that I were a branch

leaning out with courage to go a different way

o that I were a root

reaching down for strength to become strength

But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like tree planted by streams of water that yields it’s fruit in it’s season, and it’s leaf does not wither.  In all that he does, he prospers.” Psalm 1:2-3
